Why should you purchase a raffle ticket for the ORMF Commissioner License?

2019 marks the 25th Anniversary of the Oyster Ridge Music Festival. We’re labeling this our Silver Jubilee – and we are definitely going to celebrate 25 years in fashion! Once again this year, because of the tremendous support from Wyoming Game & Fish Commissioner Mike Schmid, we are lucky enough to offer one of the most coveted hunting licenses available in the State of Wyoming. This raffle will undoubtedly be the largest, most opportunistic fundraiser that we will have this year. Last year’s license raised significant funds that have allowed us this year to put together what is the biggest lineup that we have ever had here at the Oyster Ridge Music Festival and it will make for a very memorable weekend. Keep checking in – we’ll be releasing this year's lineup very soon!

This event can’t happen without your support. So, if you have ever considered donating to ORMF, or are just a fan, please consider purchasing a ticket! Your $100 contribution will go a long way and will ensure that 2019 will be the most incredible festival to date!

Tickets may be purchased online or from a ORMF Committee member. Tickets are $100 each or 4 for $300. Only 300 tickets will be sold.

What is a Wyoming Commissioner’s License?

Each year, the Wyoming Game and Fish issues Commissioner Licenses to their commissioners who have the ability to award the licenses to non-profit organizations to be used to raise funds. Terms of the license state that it must be either auctioned to the highest bidder, or raffled. We were extremely fortunate to receive one of these again this year.

These licenses are extremely coveted because they allow the holder to select one of three species to hunt – either Deer, Elk, or Pronghorn. The most important thing to note is that the holder is also allowed to select the hunt area that they would like to hunt in, and THIS DOES INCLUDE LIMITED QUOTA AREAS! If there is a hunt area for elk that you have always wanted to hunt but have never been able to draw, this is your chance! The only exception are elk areas 75, 77, and 79 which also require a Special Park Permit, which is not available to winners of the Commissioner License. DO NOT purchase a raffle ticket for this Commissioner License if your intent is to hunt in Grand Teton National Park.

Because of the ability to select these limited quota areas, these licenses auction for A LOT of money. The average auction price for one of these licenses is typically around $15,000 or more.

Why didn’t ORMF auction this license off?

We chose to raffle this license because we wanted everyone who has the desire to hunt a special draw area to have an opportunity.

What if I win, and I don’t hunt?

The Wyoming Game and Fish will allow the winner to transfer the license to another individual. However, the winner may not sell the license to anyone for more than the purchase price of their raffle ticket (in our case $100). Give it to a friend or family member!

The law also states that the winner may donate the license back to the organization (ORMF) to be auctioned or raffled off again.

What if I’m not a Wyoming Resident?

It doesn’t matter. Wyoming resident or non-resident, this is your license! This year, Original Oystergrass, Inc. will reimburse the winner of the Commissioner License the cost of the actual license chosen. If you win the Commissioner License, you are still required to buy the actual hunting license. For example, if you are a non-resident and you select elk as your species, after you have paid the Wyoming Game & Fish the license fee and we have confirmed it with them, we will send the winner a check in the amount they had to pay the Wyoming Game & Fish for the license. A non-resident elk license costs approximately $700.

What if I draw a license in the regular draw?

You can have two licenses! The Commissioner license is exempt from the rule limiting a hunter to only one license. Let’s say that you drew a limited quota elk license this year in Area 100. If you won the Commissioner license in our raffle, you could choose another limited quota elk license to use in 2019 as well.

The first name drawn will win the Commissioner License. The second name that we draw will win a Leica Geovid R Rangefinding 10x42 binocular that is valued at approximately $1,400! Both are amazing prizes!
